Keppel wins four awards at WSH Awards 2024

Keppel DHCS clinches WSH Performance (Gold) and WSH Innovation awards, while both Keppel Seghers Tuas WTE Plant and Keppel Data Centre Holdings secure WSH Performance (Silver).

Keppel Ltd. (Keppel) was recognised for its commitment to safety with four awards at this year’s Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Awards 2024. Organised by the WSH Council and supported by the Ministry of Manpower, the annual WSH Awards recognises organisations and individuals who have achieved excellence in workplace safety and health.

Keppel DHCS, the district cooling business under Keppel’s Infrastructure division, was conferred the WSH Performance (Gold) award. This award recognises the team’s efforts in implementing sound safety and health management systems and going the extra mile to safeguard employees and contractors at all worksites. To qualify for the Gold award, candidates would need to have attained the Silver award for the past three consecutive years, highlighting the rigour of safety performance and standards required.

Keppel DHCS also received the WSH Innovation Award, which recognises the best of WSH innovations that improve health and safety standards in the workplace. Its winning project, the Safe Infill Cleaner (SIC), is an automated washing system designed to clean the in-fill areas of a cooling tower system, thus eliminating the risks of working at heights, as well as slip, trip and fall hazards associated with manual cleaning.

For their outstanding safety and health performance and systems, Keppel Seghers Tuas Waste-To-Energy (WTE) Plant clinched the WSH Performance (Silver) award for the second consecutive year, while Keppel Data Centres Holdings secured its maiden Silver award.

Mr Loh Kee Huat, Managing Director & Head (Health, Safety, & Environment), Keppel Ltd. said, “As a global asset manager and operator, Keppel is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for our workforce. We are honoured to be recognised by the WSH Council for our continual efforts to strengthen health and safety standards at our workplaces. The ethos of the WSH Awards resonate with Keppel’s core values of being Agile, embracing a Can-Do spirit, and being committed to be a Trusted partner to our stakeholders.”

Mr Lim Yong Wei, Executive Director of Keppel DHCS, said, “These accolades, the WSH Performance and Innovation Awards, reflect Keppel’s dedication to be a trusted partner to our stakeholders and our commitment to deliver reliable and efficient services to our customers. The Safe Infill Cleaner project, developed by our operations and maintenance team, has not only effectively eliminated potential incidents involving slips, trips and falls from heights, but also minimised downtime.”

As part of its commitment toward building a proactive safety culture, Keppel will be conducting its annual Global Safety Time-Out (GSTO) in August 2024. During the GSTO, employees at all Keppel worksites worldwide will pause their work to participate in safety briefings and workshops, as well as thorough reviews of their work procedures.

In addition to the annual GSTO, Keppel reinforces its strong safety culture through various initiatives. These include festive season standdowns to remind workers about off-the-job safety and improve safety awareness, as well as unannounced safety inspections to maintain workplace safety and health on site. In line with MOM’s “Reporting Saves Lives” initiative, Keppel empowers its stakeholders to "Speak Up for Safety" when observing any unsafe acts and conditions. The company also utilises ePTW to streamline Permit-to-Work (PTW) applications and identify incompatible works. These collective and deliberate efforts underscore Keppel's proactive approach to fostering a high-performing safety culture across its operations.
