Waste-to-Energy

Keppel is the first and largest developer and service provider of district cooling systems (DCS) in Singapore. It develops and operates DCS systems at major business and industrial parks, including Changi Business Park, one-north and Woodlands Wafer Fab Park, with a combined plant capacity exceeding 65,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT).

Outside of Singapore, Keppel also provides district heating and cooling systems (DHCS) services for the Eco-Business Park located in Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, China. The plant incorporates geothermal technology to support its heating and cooling requirements.

With increasing focus on sustainability, as well as the mounting density of urban populations, there is a growing demand for district cooling and heating as it offers:

  • Up to 40% higher energy efficiency by aggregating heating and cooling demands of facilities in its vicinity
  • Lower maximum load on power supply by carrying out cooling or heating processes during off-peak hours for usage during peak hours, thus benefiting from off-peak tariffs at the same time
  • Greater cost efficiency

Retail CoolingTM

Launched by Keppel in 2014, Retail CoolingTM provides cooling solutions for individual buildings. With only a monthly pay-as-you-use single-tier utility bill, customers enjoy key benefits such as no upfront capex, system efficiency guarantee, outsourced operation and maintenance of the cooling system, as well as enhanced reliability throughout the entire contract term.

By installing dedicated cooling systems at customers' premises, Keppel extends its market reach beyond the DCS catchment area with Retail CoolingTM. It currently serves customers with a combined plant capacity exceeding 10,000 RT in Singapore.

Electric vehicles (EV) are becoming increasingly popular as industries and consumers around the world seek to reduce carbon emissions. EVs offer lower fuel and maintenance costs compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In addition, technology advancement in EV technology is enabling greater storage capacities and faster charging times, which enhances driving range and reduces downtime.

In Singapore, the EV shift is also taking shape. The Singapore government plans to phase out ICE vehicles and have all vehicles run on cleaner energy by 2040. This is part of the SG Green Plan 2030, a whole-of-nation movement to advance Singapore’s national agenda on sustainable development.
