May 2024

Keppel’s assisted living community in Nanjing, China, seeks to set new benchmarks for quality elder care solutions in Asia.

Empowering you to live on your own terms – that is the ethos of Sindora Living, Keppel’s Senior Living brand and operating platform for Asia, which opened its flagship assisted living facility in Nanjing, China in May 2024.

Louis Lim, CEO, Real Estate of Keppel, said, “Fast expanding ageing populations are igniting demand for quality senior care services in many parts of the world, especially in Asia. According to the United Nations, by 2050, one in four people in Asia and the Pacific will be over 60 years old, reaching close to 1.3 billion people. Keppel sees opportunities to cater to the large and generally underserved market. Enabled by technology and innovation, the Nanjing facility will serve as a launchpad for our expansion into other senior living markets in China and beyond.”

There has been increasing demand for high-quality medical and elder care amenities to support ageing populations in China as well as various parts of Asia

With a total floor area of 19,846 sm, Sindora Living Nanjing Qixia is a premier assisted-living community with holistic care capabilities and around 400 beds. The Nanjing facility leverages Keppel’s capabilities to integrate technologies such as an intelligent platform for chronic disease management, and harnesses data to provide personalised life plans and holistic care for the residents.

Sindora Living is backed by a strong team with experience both in China and international markets. In designing the offerings of the Nanjing facility, Sindora Living also collaborated with clinical, research, recruitment and technology partners to offer differentiated services for the elderly residents.

Nathaniel Farouz, Managing Director of Senior Living, Real Estate of Keppel, said, “We conducted an in-depth study into the expectations and preferences of the local seniors to ensure that we are introducing a product that suits the local Nanjing market. We also incorporated some of the best international practices, tapping on our experience from our investment in Watermark Retirement Communities, which is one of the largest senior living operators in the United States.

“Recognising that our residents need to connect with their family, friends and the wider community, the Nanjing facility is located just about 6 km away from the downtown core of Nanjing, enabling families to live close to one another while providing their seniors with comprehensive assisted living services.”

To foster better social integration of the elderly residents with the community, the Nanjing facility is sited amid mature residential areas, schools, parks and hospitals. It also offers a wide range of activities including preventative, therapeutic and intergenerational activities, such as singing, cooking, fitness exercises, as well as excursions. These activities encourage the residents to live on their own terms, providing a lifestyle, empowering each senior both mentally and physically. In the same vein, the Nanjing facility also extends its day-care and home-care services to non-resident seniors in the greater community.
