Keppel contributes to LTA Gift of Art programme with two animal sculptures

01 November 2022

Keppel Corporation has committed to donate two bronze sculptures of endangered animals to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), to be displayed at the upcoming Keppel MRT station. The sculptures are part of LTA’s Gift of Art Programme, to bring vibrancy and liveliness to Singapore’s MRT stations.

The donation of the sculptures was announced today at a ceremony at Shenton Way MRT station attended by Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Mr S Iswaran, Mr Ng Lang, Chief Executive of LTA and Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation, among other distinguished guests.

The two sculptures are by well-known Australian artists Gillie and Marc, depicting a baby Indian Elephant and a baby Black Rhinoceros. The sculptures are part of the “Love the Last” project and are based on real animals that Gillie and Marc had photographed and sketched over the years. They aim to educate the public on some of the world’s most endangered species and are a call for action to celebrate the beautiful diversity of our planet. (Please refer to Appendix A for more details on the sculptures.)

The two sculptures will be displayed at Gardens by the Bay from May 2023 to May 2024 as part of the “Love the Last March” exhibition, after which they will be acquired by Keppel and donated to LTA.

Mr Ng Lang, CEO of LTA, said, “We thank Keppel Corporation for their generous donation, and being one of two pioneer donors to launch this programme. We hope these sculptures will not only help enliven the daily commute and shape the identity of Keppel station but also serve as a reminder on the importance of sustainability and conservation.”

Mr Loh Chin Hua, CEO of Keppel Corporation, said, “As a homegrown Singapore company, Keppel is proud to contribute to LTA’s Gift of Art programme by donating the two sculptures to be displayed at the new Keppel MRT Station. The two sculptures of critically endangered baby animals resonate with Keppel’s commitment to environmental sustainability. We hope they will not only add vibrancy to our public spaces but also raise awareness on the importance of conserving biodiversity.”
