Keppel Corporation announced today a $120,000 donation to Willing Hearts, a volunteer-run soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes close to 10,000 meals daily to underprivileged and needy communities in Singapore. This collaboration will be spearheaded by Keppel Infrastructure (KI), and will comprise the following elements:

• The Keppel Group will provide $60,000 in assistance through rebates offered by Keppel Electric to subsidise electricity supply at Willing Hearts’ new premises. This is equivalent to about 300,000kWh of electricity, or more than 6 months of electricity supply, based on Willing Hearts' current demand.
• A further $60,000 will be provided in cash to defray operational costs involved in running the soup kitchen that provides close to 10,000 meals daily to underprivileged groups.

This donation is part of the $4.2 million care package which the Keppel Group had announced earlier in 2020 to support communities affected by COVID-19. The care package comprises voluntary contributions made by directors, management and staff of the Keppel Group, with matching donations from Keppel Corporation.

In addition, Keppel Volunteers, comprising staff from KI as well as Keppelites from across the Group, will help out at the Willing Hearts soup kitchen through various activities from food preparation and cooking, to island wide meal delivery to the beneficiaries. This is part of a longer term volunteer programme, which will see Keppel Volunteers contributing regularly at Willing Hearts over the next three years.   

Speaking at the first in this series of volunteer sessions at Willing Hearts today, Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of KI said, “2 May marks Keppel Infrastructure’s 8th anniversary, and we are pleased to commemorate the occasion by launching this meaningful partnership with Willing Hearts. It also gives KI an opportunity to leverage our electricity retail business to do good for the community. The lives of many vulnerable members of the community, including low-income families, seniors and migrant workers, have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through collaborating with Willing Hearts, Keppel hopes to be able to support underprivileged groups through the provision of nutritious meals.”
