Keppel Land recognised for its sustainable business practices at the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards

Keppel Land Limited (Keppel Land) was named a winner in the Sustainable Business category of the Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards 2022, one of the most prestigious awards on corporate sustainability for companies in Singapore.

Organised by Global Compact Network Singapore, the awards recognise companies whose business operations or solutions have demonstrated excellence in embodying the Ten Principles of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact in the areas of environment, human rights, labour and anti-corruption. The award for the Sustainable Business category is conferred to companies that have excelled in implementing sustainable practices within their core operations.

Mr Louis Lim, CEO of Keppel Land, said, “This accolade is an affirmation of our unwavering commitment to integrating sustainability into the core of our business. We have undertaken significant strides forward for sustainability in recent years, including announcing our targets to halve our absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions from 2020’s level by 2025, and achieve net zero by 2030. We will continue to advance our sustainability capabilities and pursue business opportunities, especially in the area of sustainable urban renewal, as we forge ahead in our vision to redefine urban spaces for a sustainable future.”

Keppel Land has been a signatory to the UN Global Compact since 2011 and has adopted six of the UN Sustainable Development Goals which are most aligned with its business and material issues. The company also supports the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and voluntarily disclosed its approach in the four key areas of governance, strategy, risk management as well as metrics and targets, as recommended by the TCFD. As part of its environmental sustainability strategy, it develops new high-performance buildings, optimises resource efficiencies of completed properties and taps renewable energy.

Keppel Land has garnered a total of 89 BCA Green Mark Awards for the properties it has developed across Asia as at end-2021, including one Platinum Zero Energy, one Platinum Super Low Energy and 16 Platinum Awards. As at end-2021, the total estimated energy savings from all of these projects, when they are fully completed, would be over 280 million kWh per annum. This is equivalent to the amount of energy needed to power about 58,000 homes in Singapore for one year, and translates into cost savings of about $68 million annually. This is on top of the estimated total annual water savings of about 2.7 million m3 and annual carbon emissions reduction of about 115,000 tonnes.

Keppel Land’s commitment to sustainability was reaffirmed by several noteworthy industry honours in 2022. Keppel Land ranked second in Asia in the Diversified – Non-listed category and retained the Green Star Status in the 2022 GRESB Assessment, the leading environmental, social and governance benchmark for real estate and infrastructure investments globally. At the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards, Keppel Land won the Outstanding Achievement Award which recognises the best performer across all award categories, and also topped the Green Buildings category.
