Keppel Land launches project to bring clean water to about 20,000 villagers in Ben Tre, Vietnam
Keppel Land Limited (Keppel Land) today launched the Living Well initiative to provide water filtration systems that will offer about 20,000 villagers in both the Dai Hoa Loc and Bao Thuan communes in Ben Tre province, Vietnam, better access to clean drinking water. Bao Thuan and Dai Hoa Loc are two areas which have been affected severely by harsh drought and saltwater intrusion in 2020. This has destroyed thousands of hectares of rice fields and fruit orchards, and resulted in the lack of fresh water for the daily needs of the villagers.
Sponsored by Keppel Land, the Living Well initiative harnesses the capabilities of the Keppel Group in providing solutions for sustainable urbanisation. The water filtration systems are able to produce 6,000 litres of clean water a day for domestic use, for each commune. The Living Well project took a year of planning, including land surveys, inspection and testing of the systems, and leverages Keppel Infrastructure’s expertise in water solutions. The project is also supported by media partner, Tien Phong Newspaper.
At ceremonies in the respective communes, the water filtration systems were handed over by Mr Joseph Low, President (Vietnam) of Keppel Land, to representatives from the Dai Hoa Loc and Bao Thuan People’s Committees, in the presence of Mr Pham Bui Phi Lip, Chief Representative of Ben Tre Provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
Mr Joseph Low said, “We are heartened to be able to touch the lives of about 20,000 villagers through the Living Well initiative, which will bring clean and potable water to the two most drought-stricken areas around the Mekong Delta.
“This initiative is in line with Keppel’s Vision 2030, which places sustainability at the core of our strategy and operations. By harnessing the Group’s capabilities, we contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including combating the impact of climate change and improving access to clean water. These are some of the ways in which Keppel contributes to the community, wherever we operate. As we commemorate 30 years in Vietnam, Keppel Land looks forward to continue growing with the country and building a sustainable future for our stakeholders.”
Keppel Land has been in Vietnam since the early 1990s and has grown with Vietnam for three decades to become one of the largest foreign real estate investors in the country today. In 2022, Keppel Land celebrates its 30th anniversary in Vietnam with a series of activities, including the Living Well project. Following the launch of the Living Well initiative in Ben Tre, Keppel Land plans to replicate this initiative in other markets in Asia where the company has a presence.
