Living or working in the Downtown Core? Be prepared for a major upgrade. A proposed extension to the Circle Line will bring three new MRT stations to the area – Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward. The three stations will be located along the new 4km CCL6 extension, slated to be completed in 2025.
Convenience to commuters
It may seem a long time away, but works are expected to start next year. What’s more, fresh amenities and lifestyle offerings are expected to spring up in the area, in anticipation of the new stations and the convenience they’ll bring.
For a start, the new stations will connect HarbourFront Station to Marina Bay Station. Once completed, commuters will have a direct route from areas in the West, like Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge, to key employment areas in the Central Business District (CBD) and upcoming developments in the Marina Bay area.
Commuters travelling from areas like Paya Lebar and Mountbatten will also enjoy quicker access to retail and office centres in the HarbourFront area, including Keppel Bay Tower. Tenants at Keppel Land’s newest serviced co-office, KLOUD Keppel Bay Tower, will also enjoy added convenience.
Proximity to heritage landmarks
While the new Keppel Station will provide easier access to the Downtown Core and Keppel Distripark, the new Prince Edward Station will be near Palmer Road, where several important heritage landmarks are located.

These include Hock Teck See, Haji Muhammad Salleh and Makam Habib Noh.
Hock Teck See Temple, better known as Wang Hai Da Bo Gong Miao, is located at the foot of Mount Palmer on Palmer Road. It’s the oldest Hakka institution and one of the earliest Chinese temples established in Singapore.

In addition, the design of the new Cantonment Station is expected to reflect that of the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. With the integration of new and old, residents and workers in the area will enjoy not only better connectivity, but also a unique travelling experience that merges the past and present to reflect the area’s rich history.

Increased vibrancy to Greater Southern Waterfront
The Circle Line extension will also support future developments such the Greater Southern Waterfront project, a 1,000 hectare slice of coastal land that will be freed by the relocation of ports from Pasir Panjang and Tanjong Pagar to Tuas by 2027.

Estimated to be about three times the size of Marina Bay, the Greater Southern Waterfront will introduce a bigger live-in population inside a mixed-use development, according to the URA.
For residents of properties on the waterfront, including Caribbean, Reflections and Corals at Keppel Bay, the project promises to add vibrancy to the area.
On top of new residential and commercial buildings, the project’s proposed features include green corridors and an eco-network to promote biodiversity and increase activity. Imagine being able to explore these exciting green corridors, shop at a mall, or go to work – just steps away from your home.
